Gulfport’s Battle of the Bands became something bigger than a competition. On September 19, four local bands filled the Catherine A. Hickman Theater with Afro-jazz, blues, rock, soul and funk—uniting generations through live music, dancing and an unforgettable conga line. Presented by the Gulfport Senior Foundation, the evening celebrated Gulfport’s vibrant music scene and proved that when a community comes together, there’s far more that connects us than divides us.

John Killeen’s Golden Heart Award celebrates more than one remarkable volunteer—it reflects the spirit of service that helps define Gulfport.
