Gulfport’s Battle of the Bands became something bigger than a competition. On September 19, four local bands filled the Catherine A. Hickman Theater with Afro-jazz, blues, rock, soul and funk—uniting generations through live music, dancing and an unforgettable conga line. Presented by the Gulfport Senior Foundation, the evening celebrated Gulfport’s vibrant music scene and proved that when a community comes together, there’s far more that connects us than divides us.

John Killeen’s Golden Heart Award celebrates more than one remarkable volunteer—it reflects the spirit of service that helps define Gulfport. His dedication, along with the generosity of countless volunteers across the community, reminds us that Gulfport’s greatest strength has always been the people who choose to show up, give back, and care deeply for one another.

The Gulfport Senior Foundation launched an evening of space-themed laughter at the Gulfport Senior Center with Improv Sandwich and Laura Banks. From cosmic characters to wonderfully unpredictable scenes, the performers proved that improv may not always land perfectly—but the journey is half the fun.
